BEST CLASSIC EVER!!!

Posted by Lilyrose on 29 May 2008
It is a truth universally acknowledged that a book , such as this, might come once in a century, and with such relevance , to hold it's own, generation after generation. The story of Elizabeth Bennett, the intelligent and spirited heroine, who charms her way into the heart of the rich, proud, snobbish and arrogant Mr.Fitzwilliam Darcy is a captivating one indeed.More so,is Austen's satirical view of the upper class British Society, and the recurring theme-that is,the  'importance' of Women making 'good marriages'.

Some books really mean something and are meaningful..this is one of those rare books.'First Impressions are the best impressions' goes the maxim-but this book is all about how we understand people, and not go by the general opinion of a person, and also that first impressions are not the best.Every character has a message to teach, without being preachy. The subtle British humour and the cynicisms are unmatchable.'Love for the sake of love"-how that is not the case, and how marriage is determined by all aspects except love(which takes the back seat) is told in  Austen's inimitable style.

This is a timeless tale indeed. How many books, movies has this tale inspired?!'Bridget Jones' Diary', 'Bride and Prejudice'-the adaptations are countless...such is it's appeal and relevance! This book came second in the poll for Britain's 'Most re-read Novel'-another fact that reinforces the relevance of this masterpiece. As for me,I'm spellbound by this book, and I shall never forget it, for sure!
