Eat, Pray, Love: One Woman's Search for Everything Across Italy, India and Indonesia

When a younger sister recommends a book, one that is praised by Oprah on television, the first impulse is to ignore it! Thank goodness I didn't. I was down with fever and this book was on my bedside. And once I started reading it, I didn't put it down till I finished it.

Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert and published by Penguin is a book about the author eating in Italy, praying in India and finding love in Indonesia. It's a string of anecdotes that make very light reading. Towards the end of the novel you may even find yourself falling in love with the author. There is a certain warmth about her that really shines through.

Broken and embittered after a divorce, Liz gets an opportunity to travel and publish her writing. She grabs it and heads to italy where she explores the culinary delights of the place. She does abstain from sex though temptations are aplenty. Her writing is witty and peppered with hilarious asides.

She then comes to India (She stays put in an ashram, I would attribute that as her loss. the portion on India would have been much much better, had she travelled around a bit). She then goes on to Indonesia where she finds love again.

It's the story of a woman's own journey. And how she finds herself again.
